ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical and computed tomography (CT) features of lung isolated ground-glass opaci-ty and to analyze the predictive factors that may discriminate benign from malignant nodules .Methods Clinical features , CT charac-teristics, pathological diagnosis , and the follow-up results were retrospectively analyzed with 108 cases of isolated ground-grass opacity (GGO) that was confirmed by histopathology from January 2011 to March 2013.Results A total of 108 isolated GGOs [52 men,56 women, mean age (58.12 ±10.34)years] included 19 benign nodules and 89 malignant nodules. The diversity of age, gender, clini-cal symptom, margin (speculation, spine-like process), internal characteristics (ovule sign, air bronchograms) of the lesions were no statistically significant differences between benign and malignant GGOs ( P >0.05 ) .The lymphocyte and CT findings of shape , lobu-lation, interface (ill/well defined) and pleural indentation sign were significantly different between benign and malignant GGOs ( P <0.05 ) .Besides significant difference in pleural indentation sign was also found between bronchioalveolar carcinoma and adenocarcino -ma ( P =0.0252).Among the 44 patients who were followed up after finding GGO initially , there were 7 GGOs (7/44,15.91%) to grow up after 3years, and GGOs of 32 patients had no obvious change , besides the patients'age of malignant GGO was bigger than the benign( P =0.0416).Conclusions Clinical features were of little value to discriminate the benign from malignant GGOs .CT fea-tures including round/oval shape, lobulation, and well defined and pleural indentation sign were of important value in the diagnosis of malignant GGO .Surgical resection should be applied in the process of follow-up when the sizes of GGO become bigger or newly formed solid components were detected .GGO that can't be diagnosed should be followed up for at least 3 years.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDTelomerase expresses in many cancers and may contribute to drug-resistance. The aim of this study is to observe the effect of telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) DNAzyme on growth of A549/DDP cells and to explore the possibility of telomerase as a new target in treatment of drug resistance for lung cancer.

METHODSAn hTERT DNAzyme was composed. Telomerase activity was measured by telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) modified from Kim's method. MTT was used to show the influence of hTERT DNAzyme and cisplatin on A549/DDP cells.

RESULTSThe telomerase activity of A549/DDP cells was down-regulated by hTERT DNAzyme in a dose-dependent manner. The growth inhibition rate of A549/DDP cells was 32.9% by hTERT DNAzyme of 0.25μmol/L, and 60.5% by hTERT DNAzyme combined with 3mg/L cisplatin. The CDI of hTERT DNAzyme and cisplatin was 0.9.

CONCLUSIONShTERT DNAzyme can inhibit the growth of A549/DDP cells and has a synergistic effect with cisplatin. It is suggested that telomerase may be a new target in treatment of drug-resistant lung cancer cells.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDTo evaluate the significance of progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) as a new tumor marker for small cell lung cancer (SCLC)..

METHODSFifty-five patients with pathologically proved SCLC were initially treated and retrospectively studied, in which the level of serum ProGRP was tesed in various situations and its relationship with tumor stage and therapeutic effects was observed.

RESULTSThe diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of ProGRP to SCLC were 80.0% and 97.0% respectively. The average ProGRP level in extensive disease of SCLC patients was 820.00 ng/L, significantly higher than 205.86 ng/L in limited disease of SCLC patients (P=0.000 3). In chemotherapy sensitive cases, the ProGRP level had a significant decrease after treatment, while there was no change in failure cases.

CONCLUSIONSProGRP is a new SCLC tumor marker with high specificity and sensitivity. It has a close relationship with SCLC stage and can be used as a predictor of SCLC to chemotherapy response.

ABSTRACT

0.05). Conclusion Compound salbutamol sulfate aerosol was able to improve the symptoms of patients with asthma, and the efficacy and safety of this drug are similar to that of Combivent. The results indicated that compound salbutamol sulfate aerosol may be a safe and effective drug in the treatment of asthma.

ABSTRACT

To study the clinical significance of combined measurement of neuron specific enolase(NSE), carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) and Cytokeratin19 fragment 21 1 (CYFRA 21 1 ) in the diagnosis of lung cancer. The serum levels of CEA, NSE, and CYFRA 21 1 in 75 lung cancer patients as well as in 22 benign pulmonary diseases patients were measured by radioimmunoassay. Patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma had a highest CEA level. Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) patients had a highest NSE level, while patients with squamous cell carcinoma of lung had a highest CYFRA 21 1 level. The positive rate of the combination of CEA, NSE, and CYFRA 21 1 for lung cancers was 82 67%. The results suggested that the combined measurement of CEA, NSE, and CYFRA 21 1 was helpful in the diagnosis of lung cancer.
